Who We Are
Tandra Tyler-Wood
Dr. Tandra Tyler-Wood is an associate professor in educational psychology at the University of North Texas. Dr. Wood serves as a co-director for IITTL (The Institute for the Integration of Technology into Teaching and Learning. She serves as the principal investigator for an NSF Research in Disabilities Grant called, “Simulation Enhanced Training for Special Education Teachers.” This project uses classroom simulations to train future science teachers to work with students with disabilities. Dr. Wood is the co-PI for an NSF ITEST Grant dealing with training middle school students to measure stand-by power consumption. The project, Middle Schoolers Out to Save the World (msosw) is in its second year. Dr. Wood serves as the chair for the assistive technology division of SITE (Society for the Integration of Technology into Education. Dr. Wood serves as on the assistive technology committee and as the parliamentarian for the Council for Learning Disabilities. She is married to Anthony Wood and is the mother of four children.

Bertina Combes
Dr. Bertina Combes, associate professor, will serve as Co-PI for the project providing the team with experience and expertise in special education transition, mentoring, cultural diversity, teacher development, and program administration. Dr. Combes’ academic background is in the area of mild/moderate disabilities, with research interest in transition issues of middle and high school students with disabilities and personnel preparation. Dr. Combes’ experience in mentoring includes the development of university programs to increase participation of at-risk and culturally diverse students in higher education. She also served as the mentor coordinator for BUGS (Bringing Up Girls in Science), a National Science Foundation–Gender Equity Dr. Combes and other colleagues have two Department of Education personnel preparation grants ($160,000) in the area of autism intervention
